Nagpur: Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir, which is a place of worship for all Nagpurians, is completing 100 years on March 4. On this occasion, various religious programs have been organized on behalf of Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir Trust. On March 1 and 4, the temple premises will be illuminated with 31,000 diyas.
Shri Poddareshwar Ram Temple was established on March 4, 1923 and this year the temple is celebrating its centenary. On March 1, the temple and the entire area will be illuminated with 21,000 lamps during the Deepdarshan festival. This program will be organized at 6.30 pm. Also, on March 4, from 6 in the evening, around 31,000 earthen diyas will lit up the temple and the adjacent Ramjhula area.
The RamJhula bridge, which starts from the main gate of the Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir, will be decorated with 31,000 earthen lamps on March 4 to mark the calendar date of the temple’s inaugural day in 1923. Marking on Ramjhula will start from 5 pm on March 2. Lamps will be placed on marked spots from 5pm on March 3. They will be filled with oil and camphor from noon on March 4, and will be lit in the evening.
The Mandir is near the Railway Station. Janmnadhar Poddar, who came to Nagpur from Rajasthan to establish Empress Mills, decided to construct this temple in 1919. Being a family temple of the Poddars, it was called Poddareshwar Ram Mandir. Completed in 1923, the temple was inaugurated on March 4.
Idols were specially carved in stone by Jaipur’s well-known sculptor Govindram Udairam. The architecture is octagonal and apart from Lord Ram, Sita and Laxman, the temple has idols of Lord Hanuman, Garuda, Sugriva, Ganga, Mahalaxmi, Laxmi-Narayan, and also a Shiva shrine.
A 25-day Maharudra Yagya was organized by the Temple Trust on the occasion of the Centenary Festival. Various programs like Abhishek, Havan, Sahastranam Pooja, Mangal Geet Singing will be held on 4th March on the foundation day of Shatabdi Mahotsav. On behalf of Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir Trust, an appeal is being made to all devout devotees to attend the program to be held on 1st and 4th March.
The temple organizes the Shobhayatra on Ram Navmi. Nagpurians, irrespective of religion and beliefs, participate in the Shobhayatra. Since Ram Navami is coming on March 30, after almost three years, Shri Ram Janmotsav Shobhayatra will be held in a grand manner like earlier.
