Nagpur: The ongoing dispute between former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis escalated further on Monday. Deshmukh, addressing the media in Nagpur, alleged that the corruption charges against him were a result of a deal between former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh and Fadnavis.
In response, Param Bir Singh entered the fray, accusing Deshmukh of meeting with criminals at his official residence during his tenure as Home Minister. Singh claimed that these meetings occurred in the presence of then Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Pande.
Singh further alleged that Deshmukh’s son, Salil Deshmukh, approached him after the corruption charges surfaced. Salil purportedly offered to help make Singh the DGP in exchange for the withdrawal of cases against his father. Singh stated that he is willing to undergo a narco test, provided that Anil Deshmukh, Sanjay Pande, and Salil Deshmukh also agree to it.
In an exclusive interview with Nagpur Today, Salil Deshmukh lashed out at Param Bir Singh, labelling him as ‘luchcha’ (scoundrel) and ‘farebi’ (dishonest). Salil asserted that Singh’s allegations were made at the behest of Fadnavis. He accused Singh of lobbying desperately to become the Mumbai Commissioner of Police, going “door to door begging” for the position.
Responding to Singh’s challenge regarding the narco test, Salil retorted, “Tu jiske pair padd ke aaya hai, uska bhi narco test hona zaruri hai,” indirectly suggesting that Fadnavis should also undergo the test.
This intensifying war of words highlights the deepening rift and complex dynamics among Maharashtra’s political and law enforcement leaders.
