Nagpur: The suicide of Divyanshu Gautam, a final-year Computer Science Engineering (CSE) student at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur (VNIT), on May 30, has not only exposed the extreme pressure students face at such esteemed institutions but also shed light on the administration’s apathy.
While Divyanshu reportedly committed suicide on May 27, his body was discovered in his room three days later, only after his cousin dialed the VNIT administration to report that Divyanshu hadn’t responded to any family calls in the past three days.
Speaking to Nagpur Today, some students also recounted how they, along with Divyanshu, were subjected to immense academic pressure by the college administration.
Nagpur Today also spoke with Divyanshu’s cousin, who highlighted that it was his call that prompted the administration to check on their student. He also echoed other students’ concerns regarding academic pressure in relation to Divyanshu’s case.
