Nagpur: A recent verbal spat between locals and partygoers visiting the posh Dharampeth area has not only exposed the parking menace faced by residents in both Shivaji Nagar and Dharampeth but has also highlighted the administration’s apathy, which is merely acting as a mute spectator!
To add more surprise, according to reliable sources, despite the Nagpur Police’s ‘concern’ — a school within 200 meters and locals’ objections — the Nagpur Administration is allotting licenses to clubs, pubs, and bars in the vicinity of Shivaji Nagar.
On the condition of anonymity, senior sources from the Nagpur Police informed that the cops have raised concerns about schools situated within 200 meters of bars, clubs, or establishments that offer liquor, along with objections from locals, for the licensing purposes of such businesses. However, the administration is allotting them valid licenses!
Regarding the parking situation, sources explained that the Shivaji Nagar area is not a “No Parking Zone,” so cops can’t act on it. However, if someone is blocking anyone’s entrance, cops will surely take immediate action, as we have done in the past too!
It is pertinent to mention that, with the party culture taking center stage in the Second Capital of the State, the menace of parking remains a constant issue affecting citizens, whether it’s day or night.
Residents of Shivaji Nagar in the Dharampeth area are facing one such menace, with partygoers parking right in front of their houses to go clubbing in the vicinity. Though locals have raised complaints in this regard, there has been no respite yet from the administration.

On Sunday night, a confrontation occurred between locals and party animals in the Shivaji Nagar area, where the matter escalated to abuses and manhandling. However, if it turned violent? Perhaps the administration is waiting for some unfortunate incident to act.
Speaking to Nagpur Today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Shashikant Satav informed that we have taken immediate cognizance of the matter.
“The area falls under Sitabuldi and Sonegaon Traffic Zones. I’ve myself directed concerned officers to amplify patrolling in the night hours in the vicinity. Establishment owners have also been directed to provide parking facilities to their patrons,” said the DCP.
