Nagpur: In a significant action against the illegal smuggling of inferior quality betel nuts, Kalamna Police seized a truck carrying 20,000 kgs of betel nuts, collectively worth Rs 54 lakh, between the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

According to Kalamna Police Inspector Gokul Mahajan, the cops received secret information regarding a truck transporting inferior quality betel nuts.

“Kalamna Police laid a trap and intercepted a truck (AS/31/C/4113) containing 250 sacks of betel nuts weighing 80 kg each. We have confiscated the truck and informed the Food and Drug Department (FDA) officials. The FDA has taken samples of the betel nuts. Further action is underway,” said PI Mahajan.
