Nagpur: Students who have been using the Kasturba Library in Sadar, Nagpur for free for the past 26 years are now facing an unexpected demand for fees from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. This abrupt decision has sparked a wave of anger among the students, prompting calls for the administration to reconsider its stance.

Many students, who heavily rely on the library for their studies, find it difficult to afford the new fees. They are appealing for an exemption from these charges. Shailesh Sankhe, the president of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in Nagpur, has voiced his support for the students.

Compounding the issue are the poor conditions of the library, including unclean restrooms and a lack of basic amenities. Despite these deficiencies, students are now being asked to pay fees, which many see as ironic and unjust. In the past, students have even contributed money to purchase dustbins for the library.

The municipal corporation’s decision to impose fees is seen as unfair, and students have warned of protests if their situation is not understood and addressed by the officials. They have indicated a willingness to take to the streets if necessary to fight for their rights.
