Whether it’s Nagpur’s Ram Jhula accident with Mercedes or Pune’s Porsche incident, lives have been lost due to drunk driving. While arrests were made in Pune, in Nagpur, the victims’ families have been left with endless delays and “Tarikh Pe Tarikh.”

The Pune Police have arrested the father of a 17-year-old boy who crashed his speeding Porsche into a bike, killing two people. The two techies, Aneesh Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta, died in the early hours of Sunday when the motorbike they were riding was hit by a Porsche in the Kalyani Nagar locality of Pune. While Ashwini died on the spot, Aneesh was shifted to a city hospital where he died soon after. The 17-year-old was granted bail by a district court within 14 hours of his detention, sparking massive outrage.

The Pune incident brings back memories of the Ram Jhula accident on February 25, 2024, where Ritika Malu, who was driving a Mercedes car (MH/49/AS/6111), killed Mohammad Hussain Gulam Mustafa (34), a resident of Nalsahab Chowk, Mominpura, and Mohammad Atique Mohammad Ziya (32), a resident of Jafar Nagar.

Although no arrests were made in this case, the matter is pending before the court. It is worth mentioning that even after the confirmation of alcohol in the driver’s blood, the police waited 48 hours to amend charges from 304(A) to 304 and inform the court. Now, a week has passed, yet the police have not filed a bail cancellation application, making “Tarikh Pe Tarikh” an apt description of the situation.

It is pertinent to mention that sensation prevailed in the Tehsil area in the early hours of Sunday, February 25, after a reckless Mercedes car mowed down two men. The incident sparked controversy in the Second Capital of the State, with family members alleging that the accused used their money and contacts to sweep the matter under the rug.

Earlier, speaking to Nagpur Today, Mayuresh Bushan Dadwe, the eyewitness of the sensational Mercedes accident at Ram Jhula, narrated critical details of the accident night while speaking with Nagpur Today.
