Nagpur: Barely weeks after its inauguration, Xplore — the gaming zone on Wadi Road, Hingna — hailed as Nagpur’s biggest Entertainment Park, is ablaze. On Saturday, a large area of the premises was engulfed in flames. Though the exact reason behind the fire could not be ascertained immediately, fortunately, no casualties were reported as the incident occurred in the morning hours.
However, sources say the incident could have been fatal if it had occurred during rush hours, as once it gets crowded, managing the crowd becomes difficult. Unfortunately, no appropriate security or fire measures can be seen at the site.
A team of Nagpur Today visited recently and found the premises jam packed without adequate fire safety and rescue arrangements.
Speaking with Nagpur Today, Rutwik Joshi, the owner of Xplore, who was on site, informed that that they were yet to conclude on the exact cause of fire. However, he said that it has been brought under control. He also claimed that the fire safety audit of the premises was also done but refrained from divulging any further details on the audit report.
When Nagpur Today contacted Chief Fire Officer B Chandankhede, he stated that one fire tender from Trimurti Nagar (which has a capacity of 16,000 litres) has rushed to the spot, in addition to a fire tender from Wadi Fire Station.
Though he refrained from commenting on the fire status and clearance, he mentioned that Wadi officials could provide more in-depth information in this regard.
It remains uncertain whether proper fire audit was done in actual or just on paper. However the incident has once again sent alert to the visitors arriving at the facility. It has also raised a question on how fire department ignored the vulnerability involved while allowing the facility without proper safety measures in place.
