Vijay Wadettiwar Questions Surjagadh Steel Plant Groundbreaking Ceremony

Nagpur: Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar raised questions regarding the groundbreaking ceremony of the Surjagadh Steel Plant in the assembly. He stated that before establishing any project, it is mandatory to obtain permission from the Environment Department and hold a public hearing, which was not done in this case. Wadettiwar questioned the government on who would take responsibility if the Environment Department revokes its permission.

On Friday, Wadettiwar shared a news article on his social media, stating, “The massive defeat in the Gadchiroli Lok Sabha election has dealt a significant blow to the Mahayuti alliance. During their two-and-a-half-year rule, they never remembered Gadchiroli. Now, before the elections, there is a rush to showcase development works for votes. Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar inaugurated the Surjagadh Steel Project in Aheri, Gadchiroli district, on Wednesday.”

He further added, “Before starting any project, it is necessary to obtain permission from the Environment Department and conduct a public hearing. Yet, how and why was the groundbreaking ceremony of this project conducted without permission and a public hearing? If the Environment Department denies this permission after the elections, who will be responsible? Or is this just a pre-election drama to deceive voters? This question was also posed to the state government.”

It is noteworthy that on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Surjagadh Steel Plant project, which has an estimated cost of ₹10,000 crore. The steel plant is being established in Wadlapat, Aheri tehsil of Gadchiroli district. Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram has donated 250 acres of land for the project.
