Nagpur: There is good news for Nagpurians as the Public Works Department (PWD) has informed the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court that construction of the Wadi Flyover would be completed by September 15. Additionally, the PWD has committed to completing the flyover near the RTO by March next year.

This announcement was made during a hearing held on Monday before Justices Nitin Sambre and Abhay Mantri. The High Court has directed the Forest Department to collaborate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the ongoing construction work on the Nagpur-Fetri and Kalmeshwar roads.

Advocate Anish Kathane, representing the NHAI, confirmed that a construction company had been selected for the Nagpur-Fetri road project. The court has ordered the Forest Department to provide all necessary information to the NHAI regarding the asphalting of Fetri Road. Furthermore, the PWD has been instructed to complete the road works at Bole Petrol Pump, surrounding areas within a week. A follow-up hearing on these matters is scheduled for September3.

During a previous session, the High Court had criticized the proposed pavement on the Nagpur-Kalmeshwar route and deemed it unsuitable for motorists. Instead, the Court has mandated the use of tarring to ensure safer and more convenient travel. The narrow stretch of road leading to Fetri has been identified as a major safety concern due to its hazardous conditions. To address this, efforts are underway to widen the road and install pavements on both sides.

However, the HC stressed that these pavements should be replaced with tarring to better accommodate traffic. Adv Arun Patil filed the PIL concerning Vidarbha routes. Sr Adv Firdos Mirza represented the petitioner, Adv Girish Kuntefor NIT, Adv Gemini Kasat for NMC, DGSI Nandesh Deshpande for the Union Govt and Adv Deepak Thakre for the State.
