Nagpur: The bandh call given by all political parties sans ruling BJP evoked huge response on Thursday as many market areas in Hingna and Wanadongri remained closed while the streets wore a deserted look. The call for bandh in Wanadongri and Hingna was given in view of the allegation of tampering in electronic voting machines in the recently concluded Nagar Parishad elections at these two places.
It may be mentioned that BJP registered victory in Wanadongri Nagar Parishad polls following which Opposition parties had alleged foul play in the polls and also accused BJP of tampering with EVMs.
On Wednesday, the workers and leaders of parties like BSP, Shiv Sena, NCP, Congress, MNS, Lokshahi Agadi and Rashtriya Jansurajya Party took out morcha to protest against alleged EVM tampering and press demand for re-election. Later, these parties had called for Wanadongri bandh on Thursday.
Police bandobast was also made to avoid any eventuality.
