Nagpur: At a time when the entire Maharashtra Government is sitting in Nagpur for the Winter Session, a purported sting operation has exposed a police officer from Bhiwapur Police Station for demanding bribe of Rs 9 lakh for himself and two of his seniors, to settle a case in favour of an accused. The police officer, who is investigation officer in a land dispute case, was caught on a secret camera demanding the bribe.
In the sting operation done by Nadeem Mirza Baig, the officer was caught saying that the Rs 9 will be shared by himself and two other senior officers. The video clip also shows the officer talking against bribery but he can also be heard demanding for the bribe for himself, the police station in-charge and their supervisory level officer. The officer, in civilian dress, was reportedly sitting at his police station while demanding the bribe.

The video also shows the officer as saying that he will deal with officers in Nagpur referring to SP and additional SP. The officer probably meant that he would manage any query from the SP and additional SP, since it’s only once a year that he would need to gratify their demands. One more video clip showed the officer is seen revealing before the secret camera that the case was registered under pressure from the then SP and IG.
According to Nadeem Mirza Baig, who made the clips, there was already a civil suit underway in the civil court senior division when Bhiwapur Police registered an offence. He said that he was not even among the two disputants but only helping to prepare the documents. The cops arrested him after someone revealed that he had been recording the conversatio, said Baig, adding some advocate had forced him to prepare the clips assuring to use them to procure bail. The clips were never produced before any court but some advocates leaked the information to the cops, who put him behind bars.
The video clips were reportedly made earlier this year but Baig decided to make them viral only after his repeated pleas for justice were ignored even by senior officers. The latest attempt by Baig was to seek the attention and intervention of the SP recently.
