MIDC’s RTI reply nails Uddhav Thackeray Government on Vedanta-Foxconn project, according to a report
Nagpur/Mumbai: Amid the controversy over Maharashtra losing big-ticket projects to Gujarat, the Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant said the government would bring out a white paper in the next one month on the status of projects during the MVA’s tenure and the Shinde regime. The white paper will cover the last 2.5 years and will lay out what steps were taken to attract mega projects like Vedanta Foxconn and Tata Airbus which went to other states, according to media reports.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Vedanta Foxconn project moved out of Maharashtra due to the no action and delay of the Uddhav Thackeray Government. The Opposition had put the Shinde Government on the edge over the Vedanta Foxconn project. But now it is being reported that this project has been moved to Gujarat due to the neglect of the Thackeray government. This information has been revealed under the Right to Information Act by MIDC. The MIDC reply said that for four and a half months, no action was taken by the Thackeray Government regarding the project. It has been disclosed under this that no effort has been made to keep the project in the state.
The State Industries Minister Uday Samant further said that on the Tata Airbus project, he reiterated there was no written proposal or minutes of any meetings undertaken by the MVA Government to bid for the project. “There is an RTI response from MIDC which clearly states that the company did not approach them with a proposal, nor did MIDC pursue this project.”
“We want to present the white paper in order to clear the misunderstandings among the youth that have been created about the projects which went to other states. It will give details on the meetings that were held and proposals given by the previous government and our government,” Samant said.
He added mere MoUs struck by the MVA Government could not be seen as a sign of success. “Finally, the status of land given, water and incentives are key,” he said. He denied reports that French aircraft manufacturer Safran had left Maharashtra for Hyderabad. “There was a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the company and the location was decided as Hyderabad from the very beginning. The project did not go from Maharashtra to Hyderabad,” he said.
