NewDelhi/Nagpur: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to Centre and Delhi Police seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the Patiala House Court violence in which three lawyers are accused of beating JNU Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar and others for allegedly raising anti-national slogans.
The apex court also issued notice to 3 lawyers who assaulted Kanhaiya, seeking response on why contempt proceeding was not initiated against them.
The next hearing on the matter is on March 4.
The apex court earlier agreed to hear the matter after lawyer Prashant Bhushan sought an urgent hearing on the plea filed by another advocate.
The plea, which was filed in the apex court on Wednesday, sought suo motu contempt proceedings against lawyers Vikram Singh Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma on the ground that they have allegedly been caught on camera talking about the attacks.
It also seeks a direction to set up a Special Investigation Team to probe the incidents.
