Nagpur: In a freak mishap, a 58- year-old woman lost her life after falling off her son’s motorcycle while attempting to open an umbrella during heavy rainfall near Tirpude College turning on East High Court Road in Sadar area of Nagpur.
The deceased, Sarita Ramesh Wakte, a resident of Plot No 53, Samata Nagar, Nari, Jaripatka, was riding pillion on her son’s motorcycle (MH31/ET-0630) at around 9 am on Friday. The mother-son duo was on their way when the weather suddenly worsened and a heavy downpour began. In an attempt to shield herself from the rain, Sarita tried to open a folding umbrella while on the moving bike. Unfortunately, the act caused her to lose her balance leading to a fall off the vehicle.
She sustained severe head injuries upon impact. Passersby and Ramesh rushed Sarita to Ayushman Hospital for initial treatment. She was later shifted to the Trauma Centre at Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) for advanced care. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Sarita succumbed to her injuries on Monday at around 8.10 am.
The Sadar Police registered a case of accidental death following the receipt of a medico-legal certificate from GMCH.
