Woman duped of gold jewellery on pretext of polishing, culprit nabbed

Nagpur: Butibori Police arrested a Bihar man for duping a woman of her gold chain on the pretext of polishing it at the woman’s residence in Newara Society. According to police, Sarla Saroji Mohanty, a 43-year-old resident of Plot No 17 Newara Society in Butibori, fell victim to the scam.
On March 1, two unknown persons approached her residence and offered to clean her jewelry. The perpetrators, claiming to be jewelry polishers, convinced the woman to hand over her jewelry back after polishing. However, once she handed over the jewelry, the fraudsters quickly made off with her valuable possessions.

Butibori Police registered a case under sections 420, 406, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and initiated investigation. During the investigation, the police utilised existing CCTV footage and employed technical assistance and confidential informants to track down the culprits. Finally, the police arrested Anilakumar, alias Sunilakumar Satyanarayan Shah, a 40-year-old resident of Bhagalpur district in Bihar. He was living in rented accomodation in the Shiv Nagar, Pardi area of Nagpur.

The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation, admitting to the inter-state level theft of gold jewelry worth Rs. 60,000.The police seized the stolen goods during the arrest. Under the guidance of SP Harssh Poddar, SDPO Pooja Gaikwad, the arrest was made by API Prashant Labhane, and staff including Ashish Tekam, Pravin Devhare, Yunus Khan, Krunal Pardhi, Dashrath Ghugre, Ashish Kachhwah, Madhav Gutte and others.
