Nagpur: In the incident where a woman working in the field was attacked and killed by a tiger took place in Brahmapuri Taluka of Chandrapur district. On the same day, a T-6 tigress attacked and killed a farmer while he was grazing bulls near his farm in the forest. This incident took place in Gadchiroli district. These two incidents that happened on the same day have created an atmosphere of fear among the locals.
The woman Jaibai Tondre (55) was killed in a tiger attack in the fields close to Torgaon village under North Bramhapuri Range on Thursday morning. Mutilated body of victim Jaibai was recovered close to a nullah near her farm during afternoon hours. Reports said that Jaibai had gone to work in the paddy farm near the village. A tiger lurking in the dense crop attacked and killed her. Jaibai’s body was recovered after a few hours, when people went looking for her as she did not return home. The tiger had dragged her body near the nullah flowing close to her farm.
RFO, North Bramhapuri Range, Mahesh Gaikwad, reached the spot with his team and removed the body for post-mortem. Foresters have provided ex gratia aid of Rs 25,000 to the kin of the deceased. They have also warned people about the presence of tigers in the area and urged them to be vigilant while visiting fields. Forest department has also intensified patrolling in the area. This is the 38th human kill in the district this year in tiger and leopard attacks.
Similarly, a T-6 tigress attacked and killed a farmer while he was grazing his bulls near his farm in the forest in Gadchiroli district. The incident took place on Thursday around 2 pm near Rajgata Check village, 8 km from Gadchiroli.
Sudhakar Bhoyer ( 50), resident of Rajgata Check village, had gone to the farm with the bulls. Bhoyer was suddenly attacked by the tigress while the bull was grazing in the forest near the farm.
T-6 tigress lives in the area. Two days ago it was seen in the camera trap of the forest department. Therefore, the forest department had advised the residents of the area not to go into the forest through a notice. Yet attacks have increased as civilians move to forests.
