“I am committing suicide, don’t tell my mother, it will hurt her greatly,” wrote Pratiksha before ending her life at the RPTS hostel. According to police, Pratiksha was married but had separated from her husband due to disputes which cropped up shortly after the wedding. She focused on her studies to join the police force. She and around a thousand other women were undergoing training at the police training centre since February this year.

Police said Pratiksha had befriended a young man, and their friendship developed into a romantic relationship. A few days ago, she learned that the man had married another woman, causing her significant stress, said police.

On early Tuesday morning, Pratiksha hanged herself with a scarf tied to the stairs leading to the water tank in the hostel. The body was discovered on Wednesday morning, said police.

Bajaj Nagar Police visited the spot and sent the body to GMCH for autopsy after spot panchnama. The deceased’s roommate told police that Pratiksha had an affair with a man. She was talking to him on her cell phone till late at night. As their relationship turned sour, she took the extreme step. Cops seized her cell phone and started the probe after registering an accidental death case.
