Woman promised liver donor, duped of Rs 4.49 lakh in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a shameful and shocking financial fraud, a woman was duped of Rs4.49 lakh by an acquaintance, who promised to arrange a liver donor for her ailing brother but failed to deliver. A case has been registered at Pachpaoli Police Station in Nagpur.

The complainant, Shweta Suresh Dubey (39), residing in Mahdi Bagh, had been desperately seeking a liver donor for her younger brother, Shashank Dubey, who suffered from a serious liver condition.

Her complaint said the accused Sandeep Shivdas Koche (42), a tenant at her house at Jaripatka, assured to arrange a liver donor and took Rs 4.49 lakh between April 23, 2023, and January 25, 2024 for it.

However, Koche failed to provide the promised donor. When Shweta confronted him after her brother succumbed to the disease, she requested her money back but the accused refused to return it. Instead, he verbally abused and threatened her. Realizing she had been defrauded, Shweta Dubey filed a complaint.

Pachpaoli police registered a case against Koche under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution in such medical situations and ensure dealings are carried out through legitimate channels only.
