Nagpur: A 26-year-old woman has been battling for life at Mayo Hospital, after her husband and in-laws allegedly set her ablaze on Thursday night at her parent’s house in Gond Mohalla under Pachpaoli police station.
Based on the statement given by victim Durga Uikey, Pachpaoli police have registered an offence against her husband and in-laws under Sections 307, 323, 504, 34 of the IPC.
According to police, Durga had married to accused Vicky Buddhesingh Uikey (30), a resident of Ashok Nagar, in Gond Mohalla few years back. However, soon after her marriage the accused Vicky, his elder brother Vishwas, his mother Aalokhi and sister Mathura started picking fights with Durga and would frequently harass Durga. Though, Durga silently bore the brunt of in-laws in a blind hope that the situation might improve in future. However, it only worsened after giving two kids in couple of years.
Anguished over routine torture and harassment, Durga left her in-laws house on October 27, 2019 and started living with her parents in Gond Mohalla. However, on Thursday night, her spouse Vicky and other members of his family barged into Durga’s parent’s house and started hurling abuses at them.
The accused also reportedly accused and manhandled the complainant and her parents. Accused Vicky and Vishwas then reportedly poured kerosene on Durga and set her ablaze and subsequently fled the spot.
Following her neighbor’s help, Durga’s parents then rushed her to Mayo Hospital with severe burn. Durga is reportedly critical.
