Nagpur: A young engineer was found dead in his rented flat at Surendra Nagar area of Bajaj Nagar police station on Tuesday. The police are suspecting the incident as a case of accidental death.
The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Srikant Komawar. According to police, Nikhil Komawar, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), had been employed with a major company in the United States. However, upon learning about his mother’s illness, he decided to return to his hometown of Nagpur to care for her. Sadly, his mother passed away around a year and a half ago and the incident left an impact on his mental wellbeing.
The family revealed that Nikhil was deeply affected by the loss of his mother and gradually withdrew from social interactions. Despite being surrounded by neighbours in his rented apartment in Surendra Nagar, he remained secluded and hardly communicated with anyone. The incident came to fore on Tuesday morning when a foul smell emanating from Nikhil’s flat alerted his concerned neighbours. They noticed the door was ajar and, upon peering inside, found the body of him.
Bajaj Nagar police reached the scene and sent the body for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations indicate that Nikhil had likely been dead for approximately 3-4 days before his body was discovered. The police believe it might have been due to a combination of hunger and thirst. Bajaj Nagar police have registered a case of accidental death.
