Young girl duped of Rs 1,10, 500/- with a call allegedly from KBC

Nagpur: In what could be termed as sheer gullibility, a 19-year-old girl was duped of Rs one lakhs ten thousand by scamsters.

Kaun Banega Crorepati is a very popular TV reality show that has gained a significant amount of TRPs. With Amitabh Bachchan anchoring the show, many have tried their luck in applying to participate in the show. Even during the show, there were many ways by which people sitting in the house can get a chance to earn significant amounts.

Using the popularity of the show and the gullibility of many, two tricksters had allegedly called the victim on her mobile phone claiming to be calling from Kaun Banega Crorepati. The tricksters informed that her mobile number has been chosen for a lucky draw amount of Rs twenty five lakhs.

The victim has been identified as Yasmin Parveen Rafiq Khan aged 19 years and a resident of Plot No 39 years, Rambhoomi Layout, Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Near Lal School under the jurisdiction of Kalamna Police Station.

One of the two tricksters had called himself as Akash Burman and the second was an unidentified women. After congratulating the victim, they claimed that she will have to pay some amount as processing fee. They gave an account number and asked her to deposit an amount of Rs 1, 10, 500/- (Rs one lakh ten thousand five hundred) as the processing fees. The victim fell prey to the con story and deposited the said amount to the account number given by the tricksters.

She was allegedly asked to wait for some time, before which the amount will be transferred into her account.

When she did not get the prize money even after a sizeable time, she called on the mobile number from where she got the call of receiving the lucky draw. However, she was in for a shock when the mobile number was switched off. Even after repeated calls, when she did not get any response, she realized that she was taken for a ride and then went to Kalamna Police Station and lodged a complaint against the accused.

The Kalamna Police registered a case under section 419, 420 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and under section 66 (D) of Information Technology Act.
