A resident of Plot No 46, Sawarbandhe Layout, Pipla Road, Hudkeshwar, Pranay, who works as a systems engineer with a company in MIHAN, in his complaint stated that Shejal befriended him when he and his office colleagues had gone to a restaurant for dinner. Over the time, she established contact with him on social media and, in February this year, claimed to need urgent funds for her father’s medical treatment.

To gain his trust, she allegedly fabricated a story about organisations willing to help her, but insisted the funds be kept out of her account due to ‘official reasons.’ Exploiting this trust, Shejal obtained sensitive personal documents, including Aadhaar and PAN cards, as well as salary statements from Pranay, his friends, and family. Using these documents, she secured loans from various banks and financial institutions in their names. Once the funds were transferred to their accounts, she convinced them to deposit the money into her account.

After siphoning off Rs 88.46 lakh, she allegedly disappeared. On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 420, 464, 468,470, 34 of the Indian Penal Code against Shejal and her accomplices. Further investigations are underway.
