In a bizarre incident, a youth got engaged, raped the girl and then broke the engagement by demanding dowry. The Wadi police have booked two persons in this connection.
According to police, the accused have been identified Harish Sriramji Kohle (30) and Sriramji Kohle, both residents of Drugdhamna in Nagpur. Harish got engaged with a 23-year old girl on June 3, 2013. However, on July 1, Harish took the girl to his house in Wadi on the pretext of attending a programme. Finding an opportunity, Harish forcibly established physical contact with the girl. A few days later, Harish sent his father Shriramji Kohle to the girl’s house for demanding dowry of Rs 1 lakh. As the father of the girl refused to pay the dowry, Harish broke the engagement and refused to marry with the girl.
The girl’s father lodged a complaint with the police. The PSI Keshar Tayade booked Harish Kohle under section 376 (Rape) of the IPC and also booked him and his father Shriramji Kohle under Sub-Sections 3, 4 of Anti-Dowry Act. PSI Keshar Tayade is further probing the matter further.
