Youth seriously hurt as car hits bikes, crashes into Gowari flyover railing

Nagpur: A rashly driven car created havoc on the Shaheed Gowari flyover on Friday night by hitting two motorcycles from behind and then ramming into the railing on the other side of the bridge.

A youth, who was riding pillion on one of the bikes, was seriously injured in the accident.The car driver tried to flee the spot but was held by passers-by. Liquor bottles and some edible items were found in the car. The accident occurred at 10.30 pm, an eye-witness said. Shiva Thakur (34), a resident of Manish Nagar and Gaurav Patte (24), a resident of Hudkeshwar, both employees ofWestern Coalfields Ltd (WCL), were going home on their Bajaj Avenger motorcycle (MH-49/BJ-3463).

After crossing Janata Square on the fly-over from Zero Mile end, a Chevrolet Beat car (MH-12/HN-7073) came in great speed, dashed into an Activa moped (MH-31/FJ-6965) and then into the Avenger motorcycle. The driver further swerved the car to the right and hit the railing on the opposite side of the bridge.
Fortunately, there was no vehicle on the opposite side. Large number of onlookers gathered at the spot after hearing the noise. Patte, who was riding pillion on the bike, sustained head injuries. He was admitted to the hospital by passers-by. Aniruddha Hadke (34), a resident of Chhatrapati Nagar, who was riding the Activa moped with his wife and girl child, had a miraculous escape in the mishap. Dhantoli Police are investigating the case.
